Accounting Training & Education
A college degree in accounting, followed by
professional recognition through CPA certification or
licensure, provides a solid foundation and distinct
economic advantage for anyone who intends to pursue a
career in the field of accounting. Students may pursue
their education through both undergraduate and graduate
programs at colleges and universities throughout the
United States.
After graduation, a student is eligible to take
the CPA exam, which is administered by each state. The
states utilize the standardized Uniform CPA
Examination, which is prepared by the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants. This is a two
day exam which is very rigorous, and in fact, only about
25% of those who sit for all four parts of the exam each
year actually pass all of the four sections at once.
The states do not require CPA candidates to pass all
four parts in one sitting, but most states do require
that candidates pass at least two of the four sections
within a mandated period of time.
